31
July 4, 2009
There’s fireworks and parades and red white and blue and I made cupcakes, pink ones, that don’t look so pink, but that taste of strawberries and summer, and I bought myself a kitchy vintage film camera for my birthday present.
We watched A Clockwork Orange the other night, so I can cross that off the list that apparently I never made. And I got over my fear of the library, started a giant tattoo, chopped my hair off and went on a road trip by my lonesome while I was 30 years old. So this time around, I’d like to make a list, my own list:
31 things to do before I turn 32
1. shoot with the K1000
2. go to Voodoo Doughnuts
3. drive from San Francisco to Seattle on the 101
4. sit by the ocean and marvel
5. make a dress and wear it in public Done!
6. knit a pair of socks
7. organize my graphic design inspiration
8. hang art in the guest room
9. find the perfect pie crust
10. sleep on the beach
11. pierce my nose
12. finish the sea sock
13. sleep under a homemade quilt
14. make a new friend
15. camp in the wilderness Done, BWCAW for 3 nights
16. walk through the doors of an ad or design agency
17. eat at Harvest
18. collaborate
19. frolick in the rain
20. twirl
21. visit a friend who lives in a far off land
22. spend an afternoon at the union terrace
23. mend a relationship
24. watch Full Metal Jacket
25. acquire a pair of rubber rain boots
26. go night swinging at the park
27. make a difficult pastry that I’ve never attempted
28. show my art and/or photography in public
29. get some film cross processed
30. go to a parade
31. wear a skirt or dress without a special occasion the special occasion may have been that I made a dress, and it was cute, and we were going to a beer drinking festival, but hey! I wore a dress! And it wasn’t a holiday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Your list is great. I just made one myself, snagging the idea from Polka Dot Robot. I hope you have a great day, and a happy 4th. Good luck on your list.

Happy birthday! I love the list. I think the night swinging is good! I did that when at university! Today I went to the kids play area at a local farm and spent many a minute on the giant tricycles and tractors that you can pedal round a race track….I love being a big kid!

YAY ! Happy 31st birthday ! Only good things to you. Your list is strangely touching. Strangely because many things on it make sense to only you and maybe Nate or some other few. But it opens a tiny door onto your life that we only get a glimpe of on this blog, and even through our email correspondance.
May I connect a two-point list of my own to yours ?
- make this the year I could come and visit you
- let me knit you a pair of socks for you (need the size, please)
Happy birthday. I’m glad we met.

Yea K1000! It’s on the list to buy a roll of B&W film for mine to give a whirl again. I just love road trips by myself…but I those days are over for awhile. Enjoy it while you still can.
Happy Birthday…6 more months for me and I join the ranks of no longer being in my 20’s.

happy, happy birthday to you tracy! i hope that you have had a most wonderful day.
i am sitting here smiling at your list, because my 30 list shared some of these same things (difficult pastry being one of them– and now it’s a carryover to 31). and how did i not realize that we are the same age with birthdays a week apart??

Happy belated birthday! Voodoo Doughnuts – crossed that one off my list in April. Sadly, the air was so sugary-sweet smelling that I only got about half-way through my doughnut. Actually, in some ways, that’s probably a good thing! Enjoy your 31 things, it’s a great list!

[...] I guess I should probably tell you about the fact that I made a dress. And I wore it. And it needs straps. And I’m already crossing stuff off the list. [...]
