Plum and Gray
March 3, 2009
Ok, so I set aside the quilt that I can’t get motivated to quilt the second half of, switched my thread, and finished the February twelve square block for Melissa. This made me like purple/plum alot more. I really like the combination of this purple with green and blue. So pretty. (K, now I gotta get motivated for that quilting!)
And March is my month! I’ve been thinking and thinking about what I wanted to do for my quilt, and I think I finally came to a conclusion. I have been smitten with pretty much every color combination with gray for a good long while now. I feel like it makes color pop, without being so harsh as black. And I’ve noticed how alot of the photography that I’m drawn to has some gray and some color. I also feel like a quilt with a bunch of neutral along with pops of color would be nice. I was very inspired by this when I was thinking about color.
So I’m sending a few different variations of warm gray, along with a couple of small squares of red, aqua, or yellow. The design theme is open, anything goes. I’d like the bee ladies to add only one other fabric from their stash, and I’m hoping that they’ll be receptive to my request for some type of textural element, like embroidery/stitching, pleats, pintucks, rouching, smocking, layering, whatever. I’m hoping for some creative license! I can’t wait to see how they interpret it.

Ooo, I think Melissa’s block is stunning! I, too, have noticed that I really like gray. Why is gray fabric to hard to find? I look forward to receiving your fabrics, this should be fun!!

I love plums, greys and mostly blues. Your quilt will be beautiful. By all I’ve seen of your project until now, you ladies just rock the quilting world. Or my quilting world, at least.

So I got my fabric in the mail today, and I loved it so much that I immediately made your square. I wish there was enough left over for me to make myself a block. Seriously. It’s that great. Anyway, brilliant combo & theme. Definitely my favorite so far.
