The Head of the Letter
May 9, 2007

It has been awhile since I posted about a project of mine unrelated to the wedding, so here goes.
I recently finished a logo and letterhead project for a client of our class. The client wanted a mark representing their rain barrel project, promoting sustainability. Half of the class worked on this project, and we presented our collateral packages of letterhead, envelope, and business card to her last week.
She didn’t have a name when she proposed the project to us, so we chose “Rain For Dane”, although now she and her board have narrowed the name down to something else, so it would need to be changed on the chosen mark. She plans to choose one to use this week sometime.

I focused on the raindrop, forming a flower, since a main selling point of the rain barrel is for recycling rain water for garden water, and I felt that the symmetry and repetition of it fit the idea of recycling. For the comp, I printed the set on recycled and alternative fiber paper, although the organization would likely not have the budget for that. I like how the mark and package turned out, however, in retrospect, I now think that the direction that I took may be a little too corporate for what they are looking for, and not organic enough. I wanted it to feel “serious about sustainability”, but it may be too serious, and not playful enough.
